These examples of specifications are intended for use as a guide only. By ISO definition the outer dimensions of containers must remain the same viz: External dimensions are normally expressed in imperial units (feet and inches) but the tables also give metric specifications. Inner dimensions may vary according to construction e.g.: wall type and thickness etc. which may also influence the tare weight and hence contents weight etc. of the container.
